Biography
Soke Larry Barr is a certified 10th degree black belt and has been training for over 40 years. Soke means grandmaster in Japanese. Soke Barr is the creator and founder of Seido Ryu karate. Seido Ryu means, “way of life style”. It was the spiritual nature of karate that guided him to ministry. Larry is a licensed minister from Mount Baptist Church in Westwood, NJ. Grandmaster Barr has been inducted into several Hall of Fames, most notably in Barcelona, Spain and London, England. Barr’s students have won over 10,000 trophies and medals and he has promoted over 100 students to black belt. Larry Barr is also the author of “Wisdom from the Dojo and Other Tales”. Larry was the owner of Barr Office Supplies in Hackensack, NJ for 25 years, sold it, and retired in 2020. Since then, Soke Barr has been teaching to a diverse community of people, such as special needs, seniors, vision loss, and memory loss students. His mission and ministry is to change lives through the power of the martial arts. His mantra is “Osu”, Japanese word for keep pushing and never give up.
